Exercise and diet have always been the best ways of maintaining one’s weight. However, there are cases wherein some of the fats are too stubborn that people find it hard to remove them even with regular exercise and proper diet. That is why they resort to liposuction surgery, also known as liposculpture or suction lipectomy. Liposuction is a type of cosmetic procedure where excess fat is being removed, which, in turn, provides the body a better contour and shape.

Informed patients, who are people that are aware of the limitations of what the liposuction can bring, are usually satisfied with the results. There are important factors to consider in liposuction before and after the surgery. Before liposuction, you have to be aware of the possible consequences of the surgery. You should also be able to support the liposuction cost. Then, after liposuction, there are several points that you should bear in mind.

Initial results are minimal as side effects such as bruising and swelling clearly appear after liposuction. These will fade away normally after a few weeks, depending on the extent of the surgery performed on the body parts. Surgeons will tell their patients to wear elastic compression garments to reduce swelling and bleeding. These compression garments also aid in the fast drainage of anesthetic fluids and in the restoration of the skin, that is, reducing the size of the skin to fit the new contour. The complete final result after liposuction will appear usually after six months; however, some of the results would be already visible after a few weeks from the day of the liposuction as the bruising and the swelling diminish.

Many people who underwent liposuction surgery would notice positive significant changes in their looks, thus making them feel great and improving their self-esteem. But they should know that there are measures that should be done in order for them to keep the results. The results of liposuction, regardless of the type, be it laser liposuction, tumescent liposuction, or others, can be affected by the patient’s poor health lifestyle. It is suggested that patients should avoid overeating and that they should exercise regularly. Also, it is important that patients keep their communication with their doctor so that he or she could monitor and guide them in the maintenance of the results.

After liposuction, patients are worried that they might gain weight, especially since they cannot perform exercise yet for the first few weeks as they are not allowed any strenuous activities. It is advised that these patients consult their doctors on what food they should, and should not, eat to maintain their weight. Doctors would usually suggest high-protein food for the patients particularly after the surgery so that they can maintain their strength and recover immediately. It is said that if patients want to maintain positive results for a long term, they must strictly follow the maintenance program that will be given to them by their doctors. The commitment of the patients in following the program is critical to the success of the liposuction surgery.

Liposuction surgery, which is also known as liposculpture suction lipectomy, is a type of cosmetic surgery procedure that removes fat from different parts of the human body. These excess fat deposits are normally those that could no longer be removed by diet or exercise.

Before you should consider liposuction surgery, it is important that you understand all the necessary information about liposuction before and after it is conducted. We all know that liposuction is one of the most popular methods in body reshaping. But not all of us know what methods are involved in liposuction surgery. It is critical for you to know what these methods are and to learn about their corresponding risks. Of course, it is equally important that you know the preventive measures that you can do to avoid these risks.

What actually happens during the liposuction surgery? Depending on the type of surgery that will be performed, local or general anesthesia will be administered. Then, a small skin incision is made on the body part where excess fats are to be removed. Afterward, through this incision, a hollow tube (suction tube) is then inserted, which, by its pushing and pulling action, assists in the breakdown of fats in the area, making these fats easier to remove. The fats that are broken down are removed by the use of a powerful vacuum pump or a large syringe.

As with any other type of surgery, aside from its natural side effects, there are also risks that are involved in liposuction. Some of these risks include allergic reaction to the medications or the materials that will be used, infection, damage to the skin, bleeding or blood clot, and uneven fat removal. Also, there is the risk of damaging the internal organs and tissues that are close to the area where the surgery will be performed. This usually depends on the volume of fat that will be removed from the area. One should be careful and vigilant in knowing these risks. Even those well-known forms of liposuction surgery are not without their corresponding possible complications. In the case of the tumescent liposuction (which is popular because it provides the lowest risks), when too much anesthetic fluid has been injected, patients suffer from pulmonary edema, wherein the excess fluids gather in the lungs, which, in turn, causes heavy breathing complications. Another form of the surgery, which is considered a revolutionary method in liposuction technology, is the laser liposuction. Here, when laser is being used too aggressively and very near the skin, it causes burns and the overlying skin can be damaged. These are some examples why it is important for you to employ a surgeon who has done these procedures a number of times already.

However, despite the risks, thousands of people still would like to undergo liposuction surgery. But who can blame them? There are a lot of people who are satisfied with the results after the liposuction. Usually, these are informed people who are aware of the limitations of what the surgery can do. One should know that it does not matter how much the liposuction cost is. What matters is that you are aware of what to expect and of the procedures and risks involved before, during, and after the surgery.

Since the increase in popularity of smart lipo many people are unsure as to whether they should have liposuction cosmetic surgery or smartlipo which is a less invasive fat removal procedure. In this article we aim to provide you with some useful information on both procedures which should help you with your decision.

What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the most well known plastic surgery procedures. It is a fat removal cosmetic surgery operation which can be performed to remove fat from many different sites of the body including the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttock, arms and neck. Most often liposuction surgery is performed to remove excess fat from the abdomen and flanks in men and from the abdomen and thighs in women.

There are a number of different techniques for performing liposuction which include ultrasound assisted liposuction and tumescent liposuction. Your cosmetic surgeon should advise you on the various types of techniques available and recommend the most suitable one for you depending on your specific case. In general however liposuction surgery consists of making a small incision near the target area through which a narrow tube (cannula) is then inserted. Suction is then applied through the cannula to aspirate excess fat beneath the skin. The incision sites are carefully chosen to ensure that scarring is as inconspicuous as possible.

Liposuction can be performed under both local anesthesia and general anesthesia. In general the type of anesthetic chosen will depend on the extent of the liposuction surgery and the regions targeted. Smaller liposuction procedures can often be performed under local anesthetic but you should discuss the various anesthetic options which are suitable for you in depth with your cosmetic surgeon.

What is Smart lipo?
Smartlipo is a more recent and less invasive fat removal procedure than liposuction. The smart lipo procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and involves inserting a small cannula near the target body region through which a laser is then applied to break down excessive adipose tissue (fat cells) which are then naturally removed by the body’s natural waste removal system. Due to the usage of a refined laser the smart lipo procedure is also sometimes known as smartlipo laserlipolysis. Smartlipo can be performed on a variety of different body areas including the abdomen, thighs, hips, flanks, behind the knees, arms, neck, chin and face.

The Hurlingham Clinic situated in London is one of UK’s leading cosmetic surgery providers and specializes in both SmartLipo and liposuction.

There are many factors to think about when you are considering to have a liposuction surgery. One of these factors is the cost of liposuction. After verifying with a surgeon that you are a good candidate, you must then ask yourself whether you can really afford liposuction. If you think that you cannot be able to afford the liposuction cost, then do not force yourself into having this surgery. After all, aside from the cost of liposuction, before and after the surgery, there are certain costs that you should also bear in mind, such as preoperative laboratory fees and elastic compression garments (specially designed girdles).

What are the determinants that affect the cost of liposuction? Liposuction, or liposculpture, as we all know, is a type of surgery that removes excess fat from different parts of your body. The part of the body where the liposuction surgery will be performed is one of the determinants that affect the cost. If there is a huge deposit of fats to be removed on that part, it is expected that the surgery will cost higher. Another factor that affects the cost is the amount of time that is required from a surgeon to complete the surgery. The time required from a surgeon is directly correlated with the number of body parts where the liposuction surgery will be performed and the degree of difficulty in executing the surgery. For example, the cost of liposuction performed on the buttocks and on the hips is more expensive than the cost of surgery that is performed on, say, the abdomen only.

Additional determinants that affect the cost of liposuction are the anesthesia and facility fees. The anesthesia fees depend on the number of areas in the body that will be dealt with. The same goes with the facility fees. Also, if the facility is located in an area where the cost of labor is high, it is expected that one will have to pay a higher fee. Furthermore, the kind of surgeon that you will approach to perform the surgery will also affect the cost of liposuction. Surgeons who have performed thousands of liposuction surgeries and who have constantly achieved excellent results may charge higher surgeon fees than those who have not gotten enough experience yet.

The cost of liposuction also depends on the type of liposuction surgery that will be conducted on your body. The most popular type, the tumescent liposuction, a technique that involves the use of local anesthetic, which is infused in large volumes in the body part to be treated, costs significantly less as compared to the other types of liposuction surgery. This is because it is an office-based operation, and, usually, no hospital stay is needed. Another type of liposuction surgery is the laser liposuction. This type of liposuction offers skin tightening and less damage to the surrounding tissue. SmartLipo, a clinic that offers laser liposuction, charges from $1,700 to $4,500 per area treated. Of course, as I have mentioned earlier, this amount will vary depending on the surgeon who will perform the procedure and the facility where it will be conducted. Different clinics offer different ranges of prices. It is up to you to find the cost that you can afford to pay.

Finding out the cost of liposuction is necessary when you are considering to have this surgery. However, being able to obtain a high-quality surgery is far more significant than the cost. It all boils down to finding out that, after liposuction, you can look yourself in a mirror and be gladly contented with the results.

The plastic surgery specialty has evolved greatly since its beginnings in India and Egypt due to the dedication and talent of doctors, researches, and surgeons. The sufferings of many people due to outward deformities have been alleviated by these techniques.

Today, you can go to a plastic surgeon and have virtually any part of your body worked on or reconstructed with amazing results. This hasn’t always been the case; the industry has been evolving thousands of years and many doctors and surgeons have dedicated their lives to improving and creating new procedures.

The earliest record of any reconstructive operation is found in India from around 2000 B.C. Sushruta, an Indian surgeon and researcher, made many contributions to the field and much of his work was compiled the Sushruta Samhita which was later translated into Arabic and eventually made its way to Europe.

There are also Egyptian papyrus describing ancient reconstructive surgeries on the lips, ears, and nose using skin grafts from the folds of the forehead and cheeks. The history of plastic surgery in Eastern medicine did however move very slowly for thousands of years.

The techniques used in the ancient Eastern world were rudimentary and often severely painful as anesthesia methods were not well developed. The patients were also prone to infection until the concepts of sterilization and disinfectants were introduced.

The development of antibiotics, namely sulfa drugs and penicillin also helped fight infection and make the reconstruction surgeries successful. In the United States, plastic surgery began with surgeon Peter Mettauer in 1827. He performed the first cleft palate surgery in North America using instruments he designed himself.

The industry exploded with the advent of modern war. The modern weapons used in World War I brought about so many new and severe deformities in the face and body. After seeing the intense impact the outer appearance had on these maimed soldiers and their success in life, many talented surgeons dedicated themselves fully to improve surgical treatments that would help the thousands of men that were burned and wounded by war.

By World War II, doctors and surgeons were much better prepared when they needed to relieve the suffering of soldiers through the reconstruction of their broken bodies and scarred flesh.

Dr. William Stewart Halstead founded the first general surgery training program in the United States and it wasn’t long before the American surgeons surpassed the rest of the world when it came to specialization within surgery. Plastic Surgery didn’t become a specialty until the early 20th century and it wasn’t until 1946 that the first issue of The Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery came about.

With its own medical journal and the birth of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the accompanying board certification, this discipline became recognized as a respected medical specialty. Modern plastic surgery as we know it today really began in the 1960′s and 70′s.

And now the specialty welcomes cases both reconstructive as well as those that are truly elective and aesthetic. This medical field now encompasses many procedures, including everything from rhinoplasty (nose job), breast augmentation, and eyelid surgery to abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction, and total face transplants.
